Athens. The city with the most glorious history in the world, a city worshipped by gods and people, a magical city. The enchanting capital of Greece was a birthplace for a civilization. It is the city where democracy was born and the it became centre of an ancient empire. A city of history, a city of culture, a city of style.
From the marble grandeur of ancient temples to the boutiques, bars and restaurants of the Kolonaki district, from the city's 148 theatrical stages to the galleries and museums, Athens is a city of many faces and many pleasures.
Athens is situated in the prefecture of Attica, on a peninsular that jutts out into the Aegean Sea. It is surrounded by the mountains Ymmytos, Pendeli and Parnitha northwards and eastwards, and the Saronic Gulf southwards and westwards. The sun is shining over Athens all year round. The climate is one of the best in Europe, with mild winters and very hot summers, making it an ideal destination for the traveller.
